6 new schools to offer French immersion this fall

New Brunswick has announced the 67 schools that will offer early French immersion programs starting this fall.

The list includes six schools where immersion is not currently being offered, including:

  • Blackville School in Blackville;
  • Nelson Rural School in Miramichi;
  • North & South Esk Elementary School in Sunny Corner;
  • Keswick Ridge School in Keswick Ridge;
  • Minto Elementary Middle School in Minto; and
  • Montgomery Street Elementary School in Fredericton.

Premier Brian Gallant says the province is restoring French immersion to Grade 1 because studies show earlier is better when it comes to learning a second language.

The province has also announced a pilot project to provide more opportunities where there is some interest in immersion but not enough to warrant the creation of an immersion class.

You can find the complete list of schools offering French immersion programs online.
