Apartment building fire in Elsipogtog First Nation displaces 13 people

Thirteen people have been forced out of their homes after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Elsipogtog First Nation.

The Canadian Red Cross says the flames were initially put out on Wednesday but they re-ignited early Thursday.

Emergency lodging and food has been arranged by disaster volunteers for 10 adults and two children.

Other items including blankets, personal-care kits, and toys for the two children were also provided.

The Canadian Red Cross says one man is staying with relatives on the reserve, where the band council along with the provincial Department of Social Development was taking care of other emergency needs such as clothing purchases and transportation to a hotel.

The eight-unit apartment building on Main River Creek Road was destroyed.
