Atlantic Immigration Pilot project now underway

New Brunswick says a pilot project now underway in the province will help it respond to the problem of an aging and shrinking population.

The three-year Atlantic Immigration Pilot project is aimed at attracting and retaining skilled immigrants for the workforce, as a way of supporting population growth and addressing labour shortages.

It's hoped the program will bring 2,000 additional immigrants and their families to the four Atlantic provinces.

Almost 200 Atlantic Canadian employers have expressed interest in the program, and over 50 have been formally designated.
