Canadian Red Cross says family of five displaced by fire near Woodstock

The Canadian Red Cross says a family of five has been forced out of their home following a fire near Richmond Corner, a rural community located a few kilometres west of Woodstock.

Woodstock Fire Chief Ricky Nicholson says the blaze, which started in the basement, was reported around 6 p.m. on Saturday and caused extensive smoke and water damage throughout the two-storey house.

The Canadian Red Cross says there were no injuries as the woman and her three children were away visiting relatives, while the man wasn't home at time.

The man is currently staying with friends.

Disaster volunteers are meeting with the family on Sunday to help with any emergency needs such as lodging, food, and clothing.
