City crews begin work to replace boardwalk, viewing platform on North Riverfront Trail

City crews have begun work to replace a wooden boardwalk and viewing platform on the North Riverfront Trail in Fredericton.

A news release from the city says the existing structures, which are located off Cityview Avenue, have been been removed and will be replaced with a new wooden viewing platform and earthen berm walkway, which is not expected to be impacted by floods.

The city says the existing boardwalk was in need of 'significant' repairs and upgrades as it had been structurally deteriorating due to repeated stresses from flooding and erosion.

Construction on the boardwalk is set to wrap up in summer 2018, while work on the new wooden viewing platform is expected to be completed in 2019.
