City Summit to gather input for Fredericton's municipal plan, growth strategy

The City of Fredericton is encouraging residents to sign up for the Imagine Fredericton City Summit later this week.

Officials say the three-day event will be a community conversation around key issues and opportunities the city needs to consider for its new municipal plan and growth strategy.

Following the summit, three growth scenarios will be prepared for community feedback, and the municipal plan will be developed based on the preferred scenario.

The City Summit Launch takes place at the Centre communautaire Sainte-Anne at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, where Harvard educated and renowned urbanist Michael von Hausen will give a presentation designed to inspire innovation.

On Friday, there will be several roundtable workshops at the Fredericton Convention Centre from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. dealing with key city-building themes that will need to be considered as part of the municipal plan and growth strategy including housing diversity, cycling infrastructure, recreational amenities, downtown and food security.

That will be followed on Saturday morning by four mobile workshops across the city, where a planner-led walking or virtual tour will explore the city's growth challenges and opportunities as exemplified by specific city neighbourhoods.

Also on Saturday, an Imagine Fredericton Youth Summit will explore growth challenges and opportunities from a youth perspective from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Fredericton Public Library.

You can find a full list of events, and register for the Summit, on the city's website.
