Correctional officers charged in 2015 death of Dorchester Penitentiary inmate
Two correctional officers have been charged in the death of an inmate at the Dorchester Penitentiary more than two years ago.
Sackville RCMP were contacted early on May 27th, 2015 after 33-year-old Matthew Ryan Hines was pronounced dead at the Moncton City Hospital following an emergency medical transport from the institution.
An investigation by police determined at the time that foul play was not suspected, but additional information came forward in May 2016.
Nova Scotia RCMP were brought in to review the file, and charges were laid against two men.
48-year-old Alvida Ross and 31-year-old Mathieu Bourgoin, both from Dieppe, face one count each of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death and are due to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on February 26th.
