CUPE NB applauds Family Day holiday
CUPE New Brunswick is applauding the province's decision to introduce a new statutory holiday in February.
The union says New Brunswick has recognized the need for a mid-winter holiday, and they're confident Family Day will benefit local economy and tourism.
President Daniel Légère says Sunday shopping has taken much-needed family and community time away from private sector workers, and they believe the holiday will partly redress the problem.
CUPE is also hoping the federal government will recognize the February holiday as a paid public holiday for federal workers.
