Deadline to remove ice fishing shelters from waterways approaching

New Brunswick has set deadlines to remove ice fishing shelters from all provincial waterways.

The Department of Environment and Local Government said Wednesday that buildings must be moved by March 13 in the southern part of the province, and by March 20 in the north.

Officials said waste and debris that result from failing to remove shelters before spring breakup pose a risk to waterways.

Department spokesperson Marc André Chiasson told our newsroom that the date to remove shacks depends on weather and the status of the ice each year.

Chiasson said this year's deadlines are earlier than 2016.
