Disturbance in Barryville leads to weapons-related charges

Charges have been laid after RCMP responded to a call of a man brandishing two knives who they say later made threats against police.

Officers located the 45-year-old man near a wooded area off of Route 11 in Barryville last Wednesday evening.

Traffic was blocked in both directions while police negotiated with the man, who was eventually taken into custody and then transported to hospital for treatment.

Dale Joseph Anderson appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court the following day and was charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, causing a disturbance, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.

The judge ordered a 30 day psychiatric evaluation, and Anderson will appear back in court on August 7.
