Endangered whale entangled off Gaspe Peninsula

An endangered whale has been spotted tangled up in fishing gear off the coast of Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada says the North Atlantic right whale was in what it called an ``extremely difficult and worrying'' situation.

Staff with the New England Aquarium say they last saw him in April, when he was still swimming free swim in Cape Cod Bay. But on Monday, the 15-year-old whale was discovered entangled by a Fisheries and Oceans Canada plane surveying an area of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and hasn't been seen since.
Ten of the animals have died since June in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.

Entanglement in fishing rope and collisions with ships are the suspected causes of most of the deaths.
