Esgenoôpetitj woman dies from suspected drug overdose

The Esgenoôpetitj First Nation is mourning the loss of a 35-year-old woman earlier this week.

Chief Alvery Paul tells the Miramichi Leader that Ann Marie Lambert died from what is believed to be a fentanyl overdose.

Paul suspects three others also overdosed in the community this week.

He posted a picture of a blue pill on Facebook, labelled percocet 5, which he says is fentanyl that is being sold in the community.

Mounties say the cause of Lambert's death has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
