Federal, provincial governments fund Fredericton Airport terminal building expansion
A $30 million expansion of the Fredericton International Airport terminal building is expected to begin this summer following a funding agreement with the provincial and federal governments.
Each level of government has agreed to provide $9 million, with the Fredericton International Airport Authority (FIAA) contributing the remainder of project costs.
The FIAA says the construction project will create 572 full-time equivalent jobs, with design work finished and the project ready to go to tender.
The expansion will increase the size of the terminal by 50 per cent, and consists of the installation of additional ticket counters, a modernized security screening area, larger arrival and waiting areas, and updated heating and cooling systems.
FIAA President and CEO Johanne Gallant says, "This project is critical, and we are grateful that all levels of government recognize the importance of the airport to our region's economy."
