Fire chief says restaurant 'extensively damaged' following fire in Grand Falls

Fire crews remain on scene following an overnight fire at an apartment building in Grand Falls.

Grand Falls Fire Chief Charlie Kavanaugh tells our newsroom they responded to the fire on Court Street around 3:15 a.m. on Thursday.

He says the restaurant in the building, which also contains three apartments and a gym, was "extensively damaged."

Kavanaugh says there was also smoke damage in the apartments and smoke and water damage in the gym.

One person, who reported the fire, was in the building at the time and made it out before fire crews arrived on scene.

No injuries were reported.

Kavanaugh says it took over an hour to get the flames under control.

The fire marshal is investigating to determine the cause of the fire, but Kavanaugh says it's not considered suspicious.

Fire crews remain on scene to monitor for any flare ups.

Mutual aid was provided by the Drummondville Fire Department.
