Fire contained at Fredericton landfill

Fire officials in Fredericton say workers at the Solid Waste facility were able to contain a fire at the landfill Monday afternoon.

Platoon Captain Steve Fraser says the fire started when cardboard that had been dropped off at the site, ignited inside the recycling building.

Employees noticed smoke and flames coming from a pile and used fire extinguishers to contain the blaze.

Fire crews were called in around 12:15pm and stayed on site for about an hour to secure the area.

There was no damage to the building or injuries reported.
