Former daycare operator accused of assault taking stand in trial on Thursday

A former daycare operator who is accused of assaulting children is taking the stand in her trial on Thursday.

CBC News reports 33-year-old Mary Jana McCormack is accused of eight assaults involving six different children who attended her Laugh & Learn Children's Centre in Harvey Station.

She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

CBC reports Jessica Grant, one of  two former employees of the daycare who took the stand yesterday, testified that McCormack would "force feed" children and purposely cook food they didn't like, adding that she also once saw McCormack throw a child up a set of stairs.

McCormack was charged in November 2016 and the daycare has since been shut down.
