Fredericton doctor suspended for sexual relationship with patient

A Fredericton, N.B., doctor who admitted to having a sexual relationship with a patient has had his licence suspended for 18 months.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons says on its website that Dr. Everette Hanson recently pleaded guilty to professional misconduct.

The college's registrar tells The Daily Gleaner that a female patient and her husband filed a complaint against the doctor last spring.

Dr. Ed Schollenberg says Hanson was not the woman's regular family doctor, but did see her occasionally at the Brookside Mall walk-in clinic.

Schollenberg says no sexual behaviour took place at the office, and that the college has not received any other complaints against Hanson.

An online petition is currently circulating on social media calling on the college to reinstate Hanson.
