Fredericton man to serve 4 years for fatal crash

A 26-year-old man who pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing the death of a woman in Fredericton last summer has been handed a 4-year jail sentence.

Police tell CTV News that Marc-Andre Doucet was driving a dark-coloured Mazda when the vehicle hit a rock, rolled, and left the road near the St.John River in downtown Fredericton June 10th.

The body of 24-year-old Jennifer Brewer was recovered from the water two days later.

The court heard that Doucet initially claimed it was Brewer who was driving. A blood alcohol reading showed Doucet was more than two-times over the legal limit.

Family and friends of both Brewer and Doucet were in court on Wednesday and there was a brief, but angry exchange in the parking lot following the verdict.

Doucet will receive 15-months credit for time already served.
