Funding announced for N.B. ground search and rescue teams
New Brunswick ground search and rescue teams will soon have access to new training courses and facilities.
The federal and provincial governments are putting more than $950,000 into training programs for about 400 ground search and rescue volunteers.
The project, which will be managed by Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue, will provide basic and advanced training for all teams in the province.
It will help volunteers to improve their skills and leadership abilities while allowing teams to have their own instructors for future training.
Some of the courses include basic searcher, team leader, search manager, managing lost person incidents, lost person behavior, first aid, wilderness and remote first aid, and basic emergency management.
A provincial ground search and rescue training centre will also be established in Miramichi.
The federal government is investing $753,000, while the province and several search and rescue partners across New Brunswick are providing $204,000.
