Illegal cigarettes, beer seized in Campbellton area

Thousands of illegal cigarettes and beer have been seized in the Campbellton area.

Government says officers with the Department of Justice and Public Safety, in partnership with the Sûreté du Quebec, seized over 51,000 illegal cigarettes and nearly 5,000 cans and bottles of beer on June 27th.

The beer had not been purchased in New Brunswick.

Government says the tobacco seizure represents a provincial tax value of about $13,000 and an additional federal tobacco excise tax value of around $10,000.

Tickets were issued under the Tobacco Tax Act and the Liquor Control Act.
