Illegal cigarettes seized near Edmundston
Over 110,000 illegal cigarettes worth an estimated $28,000 in provincial tax value have been seized near Edmundston.
The Department of Justice and Public Safety says its officers, along with the Sûreté du Quebec and the Edmundston Police Force, seized the cigarettes and a 2010 Ford Taurus on February 1st.
A 36-year-old Mill Cove man and a 27-year-old Chipman woman were arrested for transporting unstamped tobacco.
The pair have since been released to appear in provincial court at a later date.
The department says charges under the Tobacco Tax Act and the Criminal Code of Canada are expected.
The investigation is continuing.
