Injured N.B. boxer's condition improving

The stepbrother of an injured New Brunswick boxer says his condition is improving.

David Whittom, who suffered a brain hemorrhage hours after a bout in Fredericton in May, is out of a coma and is making progress at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.

His stepbrother, Eric Moffatt, tells The Daily Gleaner there is no major news, but it is positive.

Whittom lost the fight to his Saskatchewan opponent by a technical knockout and was rushed to hospital in Saint John to have emergency surgery in the wee hours the next morning.

He was in an induced coma in the ICU until three weeks ago, when he was transferred to hospital in Fredericton, where he is working with physiotherapists.
