Inmate injured, lockdown ordered at Atlantic Institution

A lockdown has been ordered at part of the Atlantic Institution in Renous following the assault of an inmate.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says around 10 p.m. on Thursday an inmate was the victim of an assault at the maximum security federal institution.

A news release from the CSC says the inmate was taken to an outside hospital for treatment, but no other injuries were reported.

The Blackville detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the institution are currently investigating.

The lockdown was ordered by the Warden and the CSC says it will continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident with police.
