Mayor Mike O'Brien has proclaimed today "Jake Allen Day".

CTV Atlantic's Laura Brown says the Mayor made the proclamation during festivities at Officer's Square.

Jake Allen, who was born in Fredericton and played his "Triple A" hockey here with the Fredericton Canadiens, was also presented with a homemade canoe.

Brown reports maintenance issues are behind the at least 90 minute delay in the Stanley Cup arriving in Fredericton, which has caused Allen to lose about 3 out of his allotted 12 hours with the hallowed trophy.

Allen says as long as people want to hang around Officer's Square he will have the Cup there, but he has had to cancel some events.

He says following today's event at Officer's Square there will be a private party with his family, parents, grandparents and those who supported him.
