Lieutenant-governor to host New Year's Day Levee at Government House

New Brunswick's lieutenant-governor will host her annual New Year's Day Levee at Government House in Fredericton on Sunday.

Jocelyne Roy Vienneau will make a special proclamation to open the levee, and Fredericton's Cultural Laureate will deliver a poem written for the occasion.

There will be music and traditional food, and visitors will have the chance to tour Government House and take a photo with the lieutenant-governor.

The levee has been held every Jan. 1 for almost 200 years.

It takes place from 2 to 4 p.m., and donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Greener Village Food Bank.

Meantime, Fredericton mayor Mike O'Brien and members of City Council will hold a New Year's Day Levee and free skate at Willie O'Ree Place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

There will be some light refreshments, as well as musical entertainment by local artists.
