Man charged following daytime home invasion in Fredericton
Fredericton police say a 33-year-old man has been charged following a home invasion on the city south side.
David J. Burlet of Hanwell is facing charges of assault with a weapon, break and enter, disguise with intent and breach of probation.
Police say the charges stem from a home invasion that happened on Smythe Street around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Spokesperson Heidi Cyr said on Tuesday that the homeowner called police to report a break and enter in progress.
"When [officers] arrived, they saw that the suspect was running on foot, and shortly after, they apprehended him," Cyr told reporters at the scene.
Investigators said the male homeowner was assaulted with a weapon and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Det. Tim MacDougall said it's unclear whether the homeowners knew the suspect.
Police would not say if anything was taken, or what kind of weapon was allegedly used.
Burlet appeared in court on Wednesday and was remanded until a bail hearing on Thursday morning.
