Man killed in head-on crash near Boiestown

Police say a 66-year-old man is dead after a head-on crash on Route 8 in central New Brunswick.

RCMP Const. Carl Casey said a pickup truck and a motorhome collided in Astle, near Boiestown, shortly before 1 p.m. Friday.

Casey told our newsroom Saturday morning that the driver of the truck, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

He said no one else was hurt.

In a news release Saturday afternoon, Cpl. Dan Poirier said the collision occurred when the victim's pickup truck, travelling north, veered into the southbound lane and collided with the motorhome.

Casey said the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
