Man seriously injured during home invasion near Bathurst: police

Mounties say an elderly man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a home invasion near Bathurst.

Police say a man broke into a home in Chamberlain Settlement between 8 and 11 a.m. on Monday.

They say the suspect assaulted the homeowner with a wooden chair before fleeing with a large sum of cash and a rifle.

Investigators say the 84-year-old homeowner was disoriented and only able to contact police on Tuesday.

Police say there's a possibility that more than one person may have been involved.
