Maple syrup producers gear up for successful season

New Brunswick maple syrup producers are gearing up for what could be a successful production season – that is, as soon as this cold snap breaks.

Bathurst-area producer George Riordon says his operation has been ready for quite some time, and is just waiting for the sap to begin flowing.

For that to happen, he says, it requires a temperature balance of minus five at night to plus five during the day.

The New Brunswick Maple Syrup Association is hoping for another long season and that recent progress on the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement could see the industry grow even more than it has in the past few years.
