Marissa Shephard's murder trial begins as jury selection process wraps up

After three days of jury selection the final juror has been selected for Marissa Shephard's murder trial.

CTV Atlantic's Cami Kepke reports that a jury of seven men and seven women plus two alternates, which are both women, have been sworn in.

Justice Zoël Dionne questioned 167 potential jurors since the selection process began on Monday.

The murder trial commenced on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to last up to 67 days.

Shephard pleaded not guilty in court on Monday to first-degree murder and arson in the death of 18-year-old Baylee Wylie in December 2015.

She is the third person to stand trial in Wylie's death, 19-year-old Devin Morningstar was convicted of first-degree murder and arson while 19-year-old Tyler Noel pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and arson.
