Memorandum of understanding signed respecting First Nations education

Seven First Nations communities have signed a memorandum of understanding with the provincial government respecting First Nations education.

The province will partner with Madawaska, Kingsclear, Oromocto, and St. Mary’s First Nations, as well as the Three Nations Education Group, representing Tobique, Elsipogtog and Esgenoôpetitj First Nations, to develop and promote First Nations curriculum and learning opportunities.

Government says all sides will work to continue implementing First Nations culture, history, and perspectives for students in kindergarten through Grade 12.

Warren Tremblay, executive director of Three Nations Education Group, says this will contribute to honouring the calls to action set out by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

All parties will report annually on progress achieved.
