N.B. companies take part in Seafood Expo North America

Several New Brunswick companies are heading to Boston next week for the annual Seafood Expo North America.

More than 20,000 buyers and suppliers of fresh, frozen, packaged and value-added seafood products will take part in the three-day event, which starts Sunday.

Premier Brian Gallant and Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet will lead the New Brunswick delegation.

Gallant said he's looking forward to meeting business leaders to discuss trade between Canada and the U.S., which he says is crucial to the province's economy.

"New Brunswick’s fish and seafood sectors are key contributors to the New Brunswick economy," said Gallant. "Promoting our world-class products to buyers in the United States, our largest export market, will create jobs and spur economic development."

Doucet said promoting New Brunswick companies in Boston helps the province attract new customers, expand its markets and create more jobs.

The province says the expansion of traditional industries like fisheries is a key component of its economic growth plan.
