Government says 25 new specialists will be added to the provincial health-care system to help reduce wait times.

The announcement was made today (Friday) in Saint John by Premier Brian Gallant and New Brunswick Medical Society President Dr. Dharm Singh.

The province says recruitment is expected to begin immediately with the goal to fill all positions this fiscal year.

The distribution of the doctors will be determined by current vacancies and priorities identified by the regional health authorities and the Department of Health.

The province says the addition of these new specialist positions represents an estimated annual investment of $16 million.
