N.B. offers Medicare coverage to international students
New Brunswick has become the eighth province to offer Medicare coverage to international students studying full-time in the province.
Post-Secondary Education Minister Roger Melanson announced Friday that students with a valid study permit who provide proof of full-time registration as a college or university student will be eligible, along with their spouses and dependants.
Melanson said the move will help to recruit more international students to the province and make education more accessible and affordable for them.
The executive director of the New Brunswick Student Allians says the change puts New Brunswick on a level playing field when it comes to international student recruitment.
Robert Burroughs says it will also play a big part in supporting the retention and post-graduation transition of international students.
