N.B. premier releases statement on International Women's Day
Premier Brian Gallant has issued a statement to New Brunswickers on International Women's Day.
Gallant says by working together the province has made great progress in advancing women's equality.
A news release from the province says recent data released by Statistics Canada indicates the gender wage gap in New Brunswick fell to the second-lowest in Canada last year.
Gallant says, however, there is still work that needs to be done, adding that the province must continue to support pay equity and promote gender balance in both the public and private sectors.
He encourages New Brunswickers to support activities promoting gender equality and to share their commitments to it on social media using the hashtag #MyFeminism.
International Women's Day, which recognizes women's achievements and acknowledges the challenges they continue to face, is observed annually on March 8th.
