NB Dental Society says hidden sugars affecting oral health

The New Brunswick Dental Society is concerned with results of a new survey on sugar consumption.

The Corporate Research poll suggests that 70 per cent of New Brunswickers involved in the study have no idea how much sugar they're consuming every day.

The World Health Organization recommends adults limit their sugar intake to 25 grams or about 6 teaspoons per day.

The New Brunswick Dental Society's president, Dr.Kirk Preston says the survey speaks to the challenges of maintaining a healthy diet.

Preston says it's the hidden sugars that affect our oral health and it's added to foods we wouldn't associate with sugar.

The dental society hopes to raise awareness about hidden sugars thorugh it's "How Big Is Your Sweet Tooth" campaign.
