NB Power explores possibility of building another generating station in Grand Falls

NB Power has begun testing to explore the possibility of building a second generating station in Grand Falls.

It says it has begun field studies as well as discussions with First Nations and area residents about a new 100-megawatt generating station beside the existing station.

It says that will form the basis for an Environmental Impact Assessment application it plans to submit later this year.

NB Power says the second unit at Grand Falls has the potential to help it meet its long-term clean energy requirements, with 40 per cent of its in-province electricity sales to come from renewable sources by 2020.
