New Brunswickers support idea of banning plastic bags

There has been a lot of discussion about introducing a ban on plastic shopping bags across the country, including here in our region.

A new poll shows a large majority of support for banning plastic shopping bags in New Brunswick's 3 biggest cities.

The Corporate research poll says about 3 out of 4 residents in Fredericton and Moncton support banning plastic shopping bags in their community, wlth every 7 out of 10 residents in Saint John behind the idea.

Every 2 out of 10 residents say they'd oppose a ban.

Women and residents with higher household income levels are more likely to support a ban in Fredericton.

Corporate Research CEO, Don Mills says this strong level of public support should encourage political action on this important environmental issue.
