New community health centre opens in downtown Fredericton

The new Fredericton Downtown Community Health Centre has officially opened its doors.

The centre moved from the Centennial Building to the former iRock night club site on King Street.

It provides community-based primary care to patients in downtown Fredericton and the surrounding area.

Premier Brian Gallant says the centre – a partnership between the University of New Brunswick and the Horizon Health Network – will improve access to quality primary health care.

In addition to providing integrated health service delivery, education and research, the centre will advance exploration and innovation in community-based health service delivery and applied health research.

Horizon president and CEO Karen McGrath says the new facility is the realization of one of the major recommendations from the 2012 Fredericton and Area Health Needs Assessment.

The province invested $4.8 million towards the project, and is increasing the annual operating budget by $1.3 million.
