New partner announced in small modular reactor research team
The New Brunswick Energy Solutions Corporation has announced a new partner in the nuclear research cluster.
Government says Moltex Energy will commit $5 million to operations, research, and the development of small modular reactor technology in the province.
It will also establish an office in Saint John.
Moltex CEO Stephen Haighton says it's stable salt reactor technology is ideal for New Brunswick’s power needs as it uses spent nuclear fuel and produces low-cost, clean energy while also achieving low-carbon targets.
The province says the long-term vision is to build a commercial demonstration small modular reactor plant at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station.
It was announced earlier this week that Advanced Reactor Concepts, a U.S.-based company, would also commit $5 million to the nuclear research cluster.
