Newest member of MHL named Grand Falls Rapids

The newest member of the Maritime Hockey League has a name: the Grand Falls Rapids.

The name and logo were unveiled at a press conference at the E.&P. Senechal Center on Wednesday morning.

The team saw a great response to the public naming competition, with over 350 submissions in the first week alone.

Rapids was submitted by a number of people and ultimately chosen because the team felt it represents the region.

All of those who suggested the team name were entered into a draw for a 2018-19 season pass, which was drawn at the news conference.

The relocated Woodstock Slammers have been working to get their executive in place and other details.

More details on tickets is expected in the next two weeks, with the price expected to be $300 for adults and $200 for children, plus tax.

The franchise had requested a one-year leave of absence in March to allow for either the sale of the franchise or provide the opportunity for another individual or group to assume control of team operations.

The official move to Grand Falls was announced in May.
