No timeline for Lincoln Bridge closure

The Lincoln Bridge between Oromocto and Lincoln remains closed after a dump truck smashed into it over the weekend.

Shawn Berry, spokesperson with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, says provincial bridge inspection teams visited the site Monday to determine the extent of damage to the structure.

"It was determined that all seven upper-horizontal-bracings had been significantly damaged on the northern span of this two-span bridge," Berry said in an emailed statement to our newsroom Thursday. "Two out of the seven upper-horizontal-bracings received significant damage on the southern span."

Berry said the bridge, located on Route 102 not far from the Fredericton International Airport, will remain closed as a repair plan is developed.

"Details about the duration of the closure will be available after that time," he said.

Westbound traffic from Oromocto to Fredericton is being detoured via Route 2 and Nevers Road.

Eastbound traffic from Fredericton to Oromocto is being detoured via Route 655, Nevers Road and Route 2.
