Officer sent to hospital after domestic call

One police officer was sent to hospital after Fredericton Police responded to a violent domestic assault on the city's south side yesterday morning.

Police tried to enter the home to arrest an adult male for assault but three officers were sprayed in the face with what is believed to be bear spray.

One officer was taken to the hospital, treated and later released.

Members of the Patrol Response Team, Major Crime Team, K-9 Team, Forensic Identification Unit and a Crisis Negotiator responded to the call that came around 9:20am Sunday.

After some negotiations, police arrested the male without further incident.

The man is in custody until a court appearance today.

Police continue to investigate.
