Ontario man, 27, fined nearly $170,000 after illegal tobacco seized in Saint Jacques: RCMP
RCMP say a 27-year-old Ontario man has been fined nearly $170,000 after more than 113,000 illegal cigarettes were seized last fall.
Members of the New Brunswick RCMP Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit stopped and searched a vehicle during a checkstop on Route 2 in Saint Jacques on Novemeber 3rd, which resulted in the seizure.
Police say two men were arrested at the scene and released on recognizances.
Aniss Samer of Kitchener appeared in court on Tuesday and was fined after pleading guilty to two charges under the Tobacco Act and one charge under the Excise Act.
Charges against a 45-year-old man, also of Kitchener, were dropped.
