Opposition leader calls for minister's resignation over property assessment hikes
New Brunswick's Opposition leader wants Service New Brunswick Minister Ed Doherty to resign after a leaked e-mail revealed Service NB invented renovations for more than 2,000 homes.
Assessments for the homes increased by more than 20 per cent because they were deemed to be renovated, so a law capping increases didn't apply.
The e-mail showed professional assessors didn't have time to check if the houses were actually renovated.
Tory leader Blaine Higgs says the minister bears the ultimate responsibility.
