Opposition to proposed rural community near Fredericton
A group opposing the proposed York Rural Community says the new community would be too spread out geographically.
The proposed community would include the local service districts of Douglas, Keswick Ridge, Bright and Kingsclear, and the community of Lower Queensbury.
Candice Dekleva tells The Daily Gleaner some residents in the Kingsclear LSD would rather join neighbouring communities that already exist.
Dekleva is also concerned about the size of the community and says the proposed $250,000 administrative budget for the community isn't enough.
Proponents say the proposed community would have a population of over 10,000 people and a tax base of over $805 million.
The province will make a decision on the plan later in August and, if approved, residents would vote on Oct. 23.
