Pilot project aimed at ending homelessness for domestic violence victims

Officials hope a six-month pilot project in Saint John will help prevent homelessness for victims of domestic violence.

First Steps Housing has received $214,000 in federal funding to study ways to support women and children who are chronically or periodically homeless due to family violence.

They will work with homeless and other non-profit service providers to assess existing resources and create a model that will streamline services and provide more comprehensive support.

Officials also hope to develop a plan that could be adapted for similar communities across Canada.
