Point Lepreau taken offline due to equipment issue
The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station has been taken offline due to an equipment issue.
NB Power said in a statement Friday that the reactor is in a "safe and stable state."
The utility says the station will be returned to service and reconnected to the grid "in the coming days" once the issue has been investigated and resolved.
NB Power has not said what the issue is, but the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission says there are no safety concerns for people and no risk to the environment.
The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station is a 660 megawatt nuclear generating station that produces enough non-emitting electricity to power more than 333,000 homes per year.
