Police raid several marijuana dispensaries in Saint John
Police say several people have been arrested after officers raided four marijuana dispensaries in Saint John.
The Saint John Police Force says officers executed search warrants on Tuesday morning at:
- BCW - Simpson Drive;
- HBB Medical Inc. - Chesley Drive;
- Medicinal Grounds - Rothesay Avenue; and
- King Canna - Germain Street.
"As a result of the searches a number of arrests were made and a quantity of marijuana products were seized," Sgt. Chuck Breen said in a news release.
All four dispensaries were among six raided by police back in January.
At the time, police Chief John Bates said the search warrants should not come as a surprise to anyone.
"We have been very cleary and direct while stating our position that it was our belief these unlicensed dispensaries were operating outside the law," said Bates. "As such, we undertook an investigation which has culminated in today's raids."
Bates said the force is aware of the Liberal government's plan to legalize marijuana this spring, but the plant still remains illegal.
"We cannot hypothesize on what those changes will eventually be or when they will become the law of the land," he said.
