Progressive Conservative MLA Madeleine Dubé not running in provincial election
The longest-serving current female member of the New Brunswick legislature has announced she will not be running in the September provincial election.
Former Progressive Conservative cabinet minister Madeleine Dubé was first elected in Edmundston in 1999 and was the first person to win five consecutive elections in the riding, as well as the first francophone woman in provincial history to win so many consecutive elections.
The news of her decision not to see re-election was tweeted by provincial PC leader Blaine Higgs with the text "Merci, Mado."
Fellow MLA Bruce Fitch has also sent a tweet saying Dube was a great MLA and cabinet minister and will be missed.
